Chaos Theory

Ordered Chaos

Ordered chaos is like a flowing river. You can see it flow down the stream in an orderly fashion but within the stream there are counter-currents, areas or turbulent flow rapids down the river and calm glassy waters down stream. Within an apparent system of order, such as the weather, is an infinite system of chaos that all comes together to create seasons.

Fractals as patterns of complex systems

Fractal patterns seem to be the building "patterns" of life. From the self-repeating shape of broccoli to the layout of the Himalayan mountains fractals exist in nature all around us. While inherently chaotic, no one can argue that life itself lacks a system. A tree is always going to produce a tree of the same species and a duck cannot suddenly become a goose. There is a system to organisms, geography and the weather. However, it is a system with seemingly infinite pieces and variations. A pattern of infinite complexity.

Consciousness out of Chaos

One might say that the human brain is a highly chaotic organism. Even though a level of order occurs in thought process and controlling the bodies integral functions, it happens through a myriad of neuron connections and pathways. An individual's consciousness is inherently unique to that individual. For every experience available in life there are an impossible number of neural connections and patterns that occur. According to Sciencemag.org, consciousness is the exploration of all of the possible iterations of a neural network. Out of the chaos of thousands upon thousands of connections, merges a pattern of consciousness.

  1. When chaos can be "framed" as in the confines of opposing river banks, the chaos appears to be orderly.
